Sonic Extends $295k DeFAI Hackathon Deadline—How to Join

In an exciting development, Sonic Network, formerly Fantom, has extended the deadline of its DeFAI Hackathon to March 10, 2025. In partnership with several platforms such as DoraHacks, DWFLabs and Zerebro, Sonic launched this event on January 21, 2025, intending to close on February 24, 2025.

However, the deadline for participation has been extended by two weeks. This presents an opportunity for more people to join the DeFAI Hackathon to win various prizes. Those already participating in the event can also use this extended period to boost their points. 

Following the announcement of the DeFAI Hackathon extension, Sonic’s market value saw an increase of 5.5%. The token is currently trading at $0.8558, reflecting interest and confidence in the initiative. 

What is the DeFAI Hackathon?

The Sonic DeFAI Hackathon is a virtual event aiming to foster innovation at the intersection of decentralized finance (DeFi) and artificial intelligence (AI). The event seeks to combine AI and blockchain technology to make complex tasks simpler. 

Participants are invited to develop AI agents capable of performing both decentralized social tasks and on-chain actions on Sonic’s high-performance blockchain. 

AI agents continue to gain traction, placing them at the cutting edge of innovation. Sonic aims to use this event to explore the use of AI agents in combination with blockchain technology for different applications that can improve the user experience.

Sonic is the highest-performing EVM L1 that combines speed, incentives, and world-class infrastructure. The platform’s ultimate goal is to power the next generation of DeFi applications. With its high transaction speed of 10,000 TPS and sub-second finality, Sonic presents a platform where AI agents can perform tasks seamlessly and in real time, opening the door to numerous possibilities. 

A total prize pool of $295,000 is available, distributed among various categories. There are substantial prizes for the top three agents and honorable mentions. For the top agents, the first place gets $60,000, the second place gets $55,000, and the third place gets $45,000. The two honorable mentions will earn $15,000 each

The event also has specialized awards for social agents, DeFAI agents, tooling agents, and integration tracks. All prizes will be awarded in S tokens on the Sonic blockchain.

Here’s How to Participate

The Sonic DeFAI Hackathon is open to developers worldwide. To participate, interested developers can visit the Sonic DeFAI Hackathon page on DoraHacks where the hackathon is hosted. With the deadline now extended, participants have until March 10, 2025 to submit their projects. 

Each team must submit a three-minute demo video showcasing their agent via social media platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, or Google Drive. They should also provide a repository link to their project code. 

According to Sonic, participants in this initiative will have access to comprehensive guidance on idea development, AI frameworks, and project setup throughout the Hackathon. There will also be technical support for ZerePy, an open-source Python framework fully integrated with Sonic Chain for easy agent building. 

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of experts based on technological implementation, design, potential impact, and quality of ideas. The winners will receive additional perks, including marketing exposure via official Sonic Labs social media channels and other promotional opportunities to help bring their agents to a larger audience.
