BitMart Employees Go Public, Demand Pay as Shutdown Looms

BitMart employees have given an ultimatum, setting a deadline of August 19, and are threatening to take legal action if their concerns are not addressed.

Crypto exchange BitMart is facing significant scrutiny as its employees have publicly called for unpaid wages and increased transparency. The demands add pressure to an exchange that is already preparing for potential closure.

The employees have issued an ultimatum, giving a deadline of August 19, and are threatening legal action if their concerns are not addressed. The situation comes at a time when users are uncertain about the status of their withdrawals.

BitMart Employees Demand Pay and Financial Clarity

Employees expressed their concerns in a public statement, asking for clear information about the company’s financial situation. They want a breakdown of assets, debts, reserves, and a repayment plan that can be reviewed by independent parties and shared with stakeholders.

In addition, workers are asking management to clarify decisions that affect both customers and employees, especially as trading services are set to end. For many employees waiting for their pay, the issue is personal because delayed wages can greatly impact their families, regardless of the company’s overall status.

The public statement shifts the focus from market losses to highlight employee welfare and corporate responsibility, along with customers’ worries about getting their money back. The workers are speaking up as uncertainty grows around BitMart’s financial health and the future of its platform. For staff, unpaid wages are an urgent financial issue that cannot wait for the exchange to complete its winding down.

Shutdown Brings Withdrawal Problems and Leadership Change

The situation developed following BitMart’s announcement on July 26 that it would wind down operations, citing various factors including operating conditions, market circumstances, and its strategic direction. The exchange stated that spot, futures, and trading services would cease on August 26, with overall platform operations concluding by January 31, 2027.

The exchange instructed users to complete verification, close their positions, and submit withdrawal requests before August 26 to avoid complications during processing.

Notably, BitMart promised that withdrawals would remain available after the announcement. However, they cautioned that high inquiry volumes could lead to longer response times for customers. Despite these assurances, several users reported that their withdrawal requests were still pending, which raised concerns among customers attempting to access their funds.

Compounding the uncertainty, BitMart’s Chief Product Officer Terence Lee resigned just days before employees publicly escalated their demands. Meanwhile, the exchange’s founder, Sheldon Xia, has denied allegations of an exit scam, stating that the company is in the process of consolidating assets and requesting patience from users.
