Former United States President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, is reportedly preparing to enter the crypto market with the launch of a new memecoin, $LAPTOP. The project draws its name from the laptop controversy involving Hunter Biden that became prominent during the 2020 election campaign.
Hunter Biden Set to Debut $LAPTOP
According to the Journal, $LAPTOP will launch on Base on September 9, with a total of 1 billion tokens available. Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network created by Coinbase, will support the project and connect it to the larger crypto market.
The proposed distribution includes 30% for founders, 20% for charity and operations, and another 20% for those who lost money with $TRUMP. The last 30% will be burned if specific conditions are met, like a Democratic win in 2028.
$LAPTOP seems to target both political supporters and crypto traders looking for speculative investments. It also has a compensation plan to support those investors who faced losses. However, the memecoin’s future value will depend on market demand, liquidity, execution, and how investors react after the launch.
It is worth noting that the administration of Hunter’s father, Joe Biden, was pessimistic toward cryptocurrencies. One way this was evidenced was in the unending legal cases between crypto projects and government agencies, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
$TRUMP Losses Fuel Airdrop Strategy
The planned allocation for $TRUMP losers comes after the Trump-linked memecoin created a lot of excitement before experiencing a sharp drop in value. The memecoin launched just before Donald Trump’s second inauguration and quickly became one of the most talked-about political projects in cryptocurrency.
At first, its price rose above $75, drawing in traders who expected it to keep gaining value and influence. However, as the initial buzz wore off, the token’s price fell significantly, leaving many later investors with large losses. Analysts estimate that nearly 989,000 wallets had lost about $3.81 billion combined through June.
These losses have sparked ongoing criticism of the memecoin and the wealth it generated at launch. Sources reported that Trump revealed he made around $1 billion from the family crypto empire, including $TRUMP, showing a big gap in experiences between the memecoin’s creators and investors.
Against that backdrop, $LAPTOP’s proposed 20% allocation gives its launch a direct connection to disaffected $TRUMP investors. The plan does not erase those losses, but instead offers eligible holders a potential stake in another politically themed cryptocurrency.
