Aave founder and CEO Stani Kulechov has outlined how he sees decentralized finance (DeFi) evolving beyond crypto-native users, noting the technology could help finance the infrastructure behind solar power, robotics and artificial intelligence.
Speaking during a podcast interview with WisdomTree, Kulechov said Aave is working to make DeFi more accessible to mainstream users while anticipating a future where money-market products could compete with stablecoins as assets people hold on-chain.
Furthermore, he also stated that DeFi could help accelerate the world’s transition toward what he calls an “abundance economy.”
Interestingly, he said Aave wants to simplify the experience by reducing the technical complexity that often comes with using DeFi.
DeFi Could Fund the Future
Kulechov said Aave sees two important paths for growth, first in financing technologies that could create greater abundance in energy, intelligence, and labor.
He described solar power, batteries, robotics, GPUs and artificial intelligence as examples of what he calls “abundance assets.”
“Abundance assets are assets that are backing the future,” Kulechov said.
According to Kulechov, many of these technologies require significant capital expenditure but can operate with relatively low costs once companies build the necessary infrastructure.
Furthermore, he believes DeFi could provide credit to these projects, particularly where traditional financial institutions may hesitate because of technological risk.
“This is actually an incredible opportunity for DeFi optimization to step in and actually help to fund the future of abundance,” he stated.
Kulechov believes this financing could help speed up the development and adoption of technologies such as solar energy, robotics and AI.
“If DeFi can play a significant role in funding against the abundance assets, we could move that world of abundance closer by, let’s say, 10 years,” he said.
He added that the opportunity could give people around the world access to new forms of yield while allowing them to help finance the technologies that will shape the future.
Notably, Kulechov stressed it will allow people around the world to actually access yield and fund the future that they’re going to live in.
Aave Targets Mainstream Users
Kulechov noted that reaching consumers directly and working with financial technology companies and institutions that want to move more of their businesses on-chain can be a game changer for users.
Moreover, he described infrastructure as something that should work across different types of users and distribution channels.
“The way we think about infrastructure is that infrastructure has to be neutral and applicable to all distribution channels.”
Additionally, Kulechov also suggested that the types of assets people hold on-chain could change as tokenized financial products develop.
“I can imagine that money markets might replace stablecoins in terms of what people will hold, The actual winners are the users and the customers.”
Notably, he stressed that tokenized money-market products could create new opportunities for users and asset managers while expanding access to financial products through blockchain networks.
