A Son’s Heartbreak: Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Mourns Beloved Father

Garlinghouse’s tribute highlighted one of his fondest memories with a man he is proud to call Dad.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinhouse

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has shared the painful news of his father’s death, offering a personal tribute to a man he had formed one of the most endearing bonds with. In a recent heartfelt post on X, Garlinghouse remembered B. Kent Garlinghouse Sr., who lived from 1941 to 2026.

Garlinghouse’s words offered a rare glimpse into the family relationships behind one of crypto’s most recognisable business leaders.

A Father Whose Influence Went Beyond Words

Garlinghouse began his tribute by reflecting on the deep emotional impact of losing someone whose presence had profoundly shaped his understanding of life, relationships, and personal values over the years. This reality now means he must face life without a father who played several significant roles in his world.

Rather than simply remembering Kent as a parent, Garlinghouse thinks of his father as a source of friendship, guidance, and inspiration. The Ripple chief executive expressed his gratitude for having known his father not just as a parent, but also as a friend, mentor, role model, and lasting inspiration.

His post attracted condolences from notable figures in the crypto community. Emilie Choi, president and chief operating officer of Coinbase, responded with sympathy, calling the tribute beautiful and expressing her sorrow over Garlinghouse’s loss. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson also offered his condolences, recognizing the news and wishing Kent peace.

Remembering the Man Behind the Tribute

Kent Garlinghouse Sr. lived from 1941 to 2026 and built a diverse career spanning manufacturing, banking, and community service. He served as the chairman of M-C Industries, Inc., also known as Polo Custom Products, a manufacturing company based in Topeka, Kansas.

Throughout his professional life, Kent held responsibilities in multiple locations, and his interests extended beyond business to include education and philanthropy. For those who knew him through his work, these achievements contributed to his public legacy. However, for his son, the qualities that mattered most were the wisdom, thoughtfulness, and generosity that defined his memories of his father.

Together with his wife, Susan, Kent supported educational initiatives, including the Center for Curiosity, Awe, and Wonder at Topeka Collegiate School. Their contributions were part of a broader fundraising effort aimed at expanding educational opportunities for students.

Garlinghouse’s most enduring impression of his father was not based on his career or public status, but rather on the heartfelt memories of the man he loved, admired, and considered fortunate to call Dad.
