Eightco Holdings Inc., a technology company listed on Nasdaq, has revealed plans to raise $250 million via a private placement. The fund will help it establish the world’s first Worldcoin (WLD) treasury. To aid in this venture, BitMine Immersion Technologies is investing an additional $20 million and will buy 13.7 million shares at $1.46 each.
The deal, announced today via a press release, awaits Nasdaq approval and is expected to close around September 11, 2025. On that date, Eightco will change its trading symbol to “ORBS.”
First-Ever Worldcoin Treasury Unveiled
The private placement is being led by MOZAYYX and includes investors like World Foundation, Discovery Capital Management, and Pantera. Eightco plans to make Worldcoin its main treasury reserve asset, along with cash and Ethereum (ETH) as additional reserves.
Worldcoin is a digital identity project backed by OpenAI’s Sam Altman. It uses iris-scanning technology and zero-knowledge Proof of Human to provide secure identity verification without saving personal data on the blockchain.
Additionally, Dan Ives, a well-known technology analyst, has been appointed Chairman of the Board to lead this AI-focused initiative. He expressed his excitement about guiding Eightco in this new authentication technology. Reacting to his appointment, Ives said;
“I am so excited to be named Chairman of Eightco Holdings Inc. (OCTO), marking the next step in the AI revolution around authentication and Proof of Human (PoH),”
Worldcoin Treasury Gets More Backing
BitMine’s $20 million investment in the project aligns with its “Moonshot” strategy to strengthen the Ethereum ecosystem and support new blockchain projects. Tom Lee, Chairman of BitMine, also commented on the project, saying;
“BitMine wants to support and back innovative projects that create value for the Ethereum network. As an ERC-20 native token, World is aligned with Ethereum. World’s unique zero-knowledge Proof of Human credential could be essential to future trust and safety between technology platforms and their billions of human users,”
The partnership with Eightco demonstrates that institutional investors believe in Worldcoin’s ability to provide secure and scalable digital identity solutions.
Meanwhile, the crypto space has recently witnessed a considerable influx of institutions establishing strategic treasuries. For instance, just last week, AlphaTON Capital, formerly known as Portage Biotech, announced plans to purchase $100 million worth of Toncoin. The move aims to establish a digital asset treasury centered on the social media platform Telegram.
The company raised $73 million by selling 6.7 million shares at $5.73 each. It also secured a $35 million loan from BitGo Prime. The funding will help merge blockchain technology with Telegram’s user base.
