WalletConnect, a crypto protocol, has seen a remarkable increase in the price of its native token, WCT. The crypto jumped over 59%, trading at $0.4581 in 24 hours. The significant surge has captured the interest of investors.
The token’s recent rise can be attributed to its listing on several crypto platforms. The protocol mentioned the exchanges that have completed rollouts, such as OKX, Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, Crypto.com, MEXC, Kraken, Gate.io, Bitget, etc.
This means trading, deposits, and withdrawals are available on these platforms to ensure smooth transactions. Meanwhile, the asset trading volume is over $812.2 million, signaling strong investor confidence. The crypto asset also has a market cap of over $85 million.
Despite the ongoing turbulence in the crypto market due to market corrections and reactions to tariffs, the digital asset has performed well. Major coins like bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) have significantly declined.
WalletConnect Allows Seamless Interaction
WalletConnect is an open-source protocol that enables secure connections between decentralized applications (dApps) and users’ wallets, allowing seamless interaction with smart contracts. Notably, the protocol’s token secures the network through stalking, rewards, fees, and governance. The network bridges wallets and dApps, enabling fast, secure, and seamless blockchain interactions through a simple QR code scan.
The protocol has surpassed 180 million connections for over 30 million users. The network enables users to link their digital wallets to dApps through a secure and interoperable protocol, allowing millions to participate in on-chain activities.
Historically, connecting wallets to apps on blockchains involved complex and complicated steps, which often deterred new users and resulted in a fragmented ecosystem. The network streamlines the process by providing a universal connection method that works seamlessly across hundreds of wallets and thousands of apps.
WalletConnect works by initiating a connection, delivering it, securing it, and ensuring interoperability across blockchains. Although the protocol initially relied on a centralized relay infrastructure to provide a smooth user experience, decentralization has always been central to its mission. Moving toward a decentralized network is essential for enhancing security.
WalletConnect Unveils Node Operators
In 2024, the protocol launched its first node operators, signaling the start of its transition to a fully permissionless and decentralized network. The network launched WCT to drive decentralization, a key asset for governance and incentivization within the ecosystem. WCT empowers stakeholders—including users, developers, and node operators—to actively participate in shaping the network’s future.
The protocol allocated 185 million tokens for airdrops to reward active participants and contributors in the ecosystem. During this time, users were asked to connect their wallets. Users are qualified based on their level of engagement. The total initial supply of WCT is fixed at 1 billion tokens. It is strategically allocated to fuel the long-term growth of the WalletConnect ecosystem. Notably, the network’s tokenomics were crafted without relying on inflation as a means of distribution.
Holders of the token can vote on critical decisions such as network upgrades, enhancements, user experience innovations, and more, promoting a community-driven model for the network’s future.
WCT token also incentivizes individuals to run nodes, supporting the growth and stability of the decentralized network. By rewarding node operators for their role in maintaining security and ensuring uptime, the protocol promotes a beneficial ecosystem where active involvement enhances the network’s infrastructure and overall value.
