VanEck’s Matthew Sigel Claims Jack Dorsey is Bitcoin’s Founder Satoshi Nakamoto

Sigel believes that revealing Satoshi's identity could reduce uncertainty in the crypto market, especially as Bitcoin's value continues to rise.

Jack Dorsey

Matthew Sigel, Head of Digital Asset Research at VanEck’s, has publicly shared his personal belief about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. In an X post, Sigel outlined several points claiming that Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square and co-founder of X, is the real Satoshi.

Sigel highlighted that the evidence that led him to this conclusion is a combination of technical parallels, circumstantial links, patterns (including timing), and uncanny coincidences, which strongly suggest that Dorsey possesses both the motive and capability to have developed Bitcoin.

Sigel Claims Dorsey is Satoshi

According to Sigel, Square’s CEO is a known cryptography enthusiast and a skilled programmer in multiple languages who has participated in cryptographic mailing lists and forums since his teens. He also shared Dorsey’s history of discussing pseudonyms, digital privacy, and financial decentralization.

The post highlights that key Bitcoin milestones coincide with significant dates in Dorsey’s personal life and those of his family members. He also argued that the earliest Bitcoin documentation timestamps align with Dorsey’s known habit of late-night work.

Moreover, Sigel argued that while many in the crypto scene think that publicizing the identity of the Bitcoin creator might harm the asset or its community, he believes that the information is necessary. According to him, revealing Satoshi’s identity could reduce uncertainty in the crypto market, especially as Bitcoin’s value continues to rise.

He drew attention to Satoshi’s massive bitcoin holdings, which are widely believed to be about 1.1 million BTC, valued at approximately $72 billion at the current market price. He pointed out that this holding could destabilize the market if suddenly liquidated.

The speculation that Dorsey is Satoshi was reignited by a post from popular X user Sean Murray, who also compiled several pieces of evidence and coincidences supporting his claims.

Speculation Around Satoshi Nakamoto’s Identity

This is not the first time speculations and claims have been made about Satoshi’s identity, who has chosen to remain anonymous. While Sigel’s hypothesis that Dorsey is Satoshi is fascinating, it is important to note that this is his personal belief and has yet to be confirmed.

Last year, an HBO documentary claimed to have unmasked Peter Todd, a Canadian Bitcoin core developer, as Bitcoin’s creator. However, Todd personally refuted the claim, calling them creative but absurd.
