Solana Mobile Has Sold Over 130,000 Of Its New Device

Pre-orders for Solana’s Chapter 2 crypto-enabled mobile phone have surpassed 130,000 as users purchase the gadget in droves.

Solana’s latest mobile device, Chapter 2 has received massive interest from buyers as orders mount. According to a tweet by the SolanaFloor X account, the Chapter 2 pre-order token holders are currently more than 132,870, surpassing the 20,000 individuals who bought the first Solana Saga Mobile.

Solana Sells 130K Chapter 2 Phones

Solana announced the launch of the Chapter 2 Saga phone, offering perks like airdrops and free non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in January, a month after the Saga mobile was sold out.

The blockchain platform began its foray into the mobile phone space with the release of the first Saga phones in April 2023. Although Saga received a cold reaction from the crypto community in the first months of its launch, sales of the gadget turned around and skyrocketed toward the end of the year.

The surge in Saga sales stemmed from a rise in the price of Bonk (BONK), a memecoin that was airdropped to the phone’s buyers. BONK rallied over 1,100% at the time, presenting an opportunity for Saga’s owners to recover funds spent on the phone’s purchase and more. While the mobile device was sold at $599, the 30 million BONK airdropped to users became worth over $900, $300 more than the phone’s price.

Demand for the Solana Saga surged so much that Solana could not fulfill orders. The blockchain platform’s inventory ran out due to a management problem with the third-party distributor, and orders were canceled.

Chapter 2 Airdrops Surpass Pre-Order Cost

When Solana unveiled the Chapter 2 Saga phone in mid-January, users purchased the device in droves. Within 30 hours of its unveiling, the phone received over 30,000 pre-orders.

Chapter 2 has different hardware and a lower price point but possesses similar features to its predecessor, including an onboard crypto wallet, custom Android software, a seed vault, and a dedicated decentralized application store for crypto applications.

Solana is offering Chapter 2 at $450 and intends to launch the product in the first half of 2025.

Meanwhile, memecoins airdropped to Chapter 2 buyers briefly exceeded the phone cost in late April. The buyers received 37,600 Cat in a dog’s world (MEW) and 5,199 Maneki (MANEKI), which became worth $480 on April 26, surpassing the pre-sale cost of $450, before plunging.
