Fake Police Storm French Home, Force $1M Bitcoin Transfer at Knifepoint

Three hooded men impersonating police officers broke into the home of a couple in their late 50s in Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt, a suburb west of Paris near Versailles, on the morning of March 9, 2026. The intruders threatened to slit the wife’s throat with a knife in an attempt to force her husband to transfer cryptocurrency.

Fortunately, according to a local source, the victims, who sustained only minor injuries, managed to free themselves and alert the authorities shortly after the attackers left. This incident adds to the growing number of violent crypto-related home invasions across France.

Wrench Attack Unfolds at the Residence

The ordeal began early on a Monday when a woman answered a knock at her door and encountered three individuals, roughly aged 20 to 30, dressed in black clothing with hoods. They identified themselves as law enforcement officials. Once inside the house, the group quickly overpowered the residents, using physical force. 

One of the assailants grabbed a knife from the kitchen and pressed it against the woman’s neck, making direct threats to ensure her husband’s compliance. Under intense pressure to prevent harm to his wife, the man accessed his digital assets and authorized a $1 million Bitcoin transfer to a wallet controlled by the attackers.

After confirming receipt of the funds, the robbers bound both victims—tying up the husband and leaving the woman with a slight shoulder injury from the confrontation—before escaping in their waiting vehicle. Neighbors responded to the couple’s calls for help, enabling them to quickly notify the police. However, the suspects had already vanished by the time officers arrived.

Rising Crypto-Related Violence

As of the time of writing, though, no arrests have been made. Authorities are seeking information to identify and locate the suspects. Meanwhile, the public prosecutor’s office in Versailles has launched an investigation into serious crypto-related crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and gang activity.

The incident reminds one of the frequency and severity of home invasions and kidnappings related to cryptocurrency in France, which have significantly increased since early 2025. Just last month, three armed intruders attempted a violent home invasion targeting the CEO of Binance France. However, they fled empty-handed after discovering that the residence was unoccupied. 

Experts believe this trend is linked to the permanent nature of blockchain transactions and to the growing visibility of wealthy crypto holders due to data breaches, social media exposure, and prior security incidents. The situation underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures for cryptocurrency owners.
