Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is arguably one of the richest people in the cryptocurrency industry. Publicly available data shows he holds roughly $1 billion worth of cryptocurrencies and other in-real-life investments and assets.
For such a prestigious figure and co-founder of a blockchain network valued at over $350 billion, many would expect Vitalik Buterin to arrive at events in grand fashion and perhaps surrounded by security guards. Well, anyone attending the ongoing EthCC conference who expected such may have anticipated such was apparently disappointed by how Vitalik showed up at the event in Brussels, Belgium.
As seen in multiple videos circulating on X and verified by multiple sources, Vitalik arrived by bus, in the rain, and without security guards. In fact, the Ethereum founder could have slipped while jumping across a puddle en route to the venue.
When @VitalikButerin makes an entry like this to a web3 event in a stormy Brussels rain ☔️ ⛈️, you know that there is no stopping @ethereum.

Ethereum Founder Attracts Praise for Commitment and “Maximum Humility”
Among the standout comments acknowledging Vitalik’s humble demeanor at EthCC, Forbes Under 30 nominee Michele Zanello noted how Vitalik gave his speech and answered audience questions while soaking wet. He adds, “This man changed the history of innovation and blockchain, and he’s a billionaire without a bodyguard. Maximum humility.”
Today I was at a crappy web3 conference north of Brussels. They said Vitalik was coming, and I thought it was a joke to fill the room since the event was weak. Then he actually arrives, by bus, in the rain. Gives his speech soaking wet, answers all the questions, talks with the… pic.twitter.com/sTks2JFtjS

Vitalik’s non-bodyguarded appearance in Brusells also caught the eye, especially after other attendees allegedly faced robbery in the same city. A few crypto community members argued that the Ethereum founder should indeed have a bodyguard, especially given how their “net worth” may be impacted if anything happened to Vitalik.
