Asian Ride-Hailing Giant Grab Now Accepts Crypto Payments in the Philippines

Grab entered into a partnership with payments provider Triple-A and local crypto exchange PDAX to make crypto payments possible for users.

The crypto adoption wave continues to gain momentum, with new companies joining the bandwagon every now and then. The latest firm to get swept up in the wave is Grab, the largest ride-hailing application in Asia.

A report from the local media house Abobo Magazine revealed that Grab users in the Philippines can now settle ride-hailing services using cryptocurrencies. The accepted assets include bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), Tether USD (USDT), and USD Coin (USDC).

Grab Accepts Crypto Payments

According to the report, Grab entered into a partnership with payments provider Triple-A and local cryptocurrency exchange PDAX to enable users to make crypto payments. The ride-hailing firm initially partnered with Triple-A in 2024 to facilitate crypto top-ups on the GrabPay e-wallet in Singapore.

Triple-A’s CEO, Eric Barbier, said:

“We had a successful launch of GrabPay top-ups with cryptocurrency in Singapore. The response has been fantastic. Now, we’re looking forward to bringing this service to the Philippines, a market that’s ready for digital currencies. This is a big step in making digital currencies easier to use in everyday life across Southeast Asia.”

The service has now been extended to the Philippines. Users can pay for rides using cryptocurrencies in their GrabPay wallets. Crypto payments on GrabPay have joined other cash-in methods, including linked bank accounts, debit and credit cards, and select business centers.

“Integrating cryptocurrency as a cash-in option for GrabPay reflects our commitment to advancing financial inclusion in the Philippines. By offering more accessible, digital-first solutions, we aim to empower a wider spectrum of Filipinos — especially those with limited access to traditional banking or those who prefer the convenience of digital currencies,” said CLacsican, Head of the Grab Financial Group in the Philippines.

More Firms Join the Bandwagon

It is worth noting that Grab is not the only ride-hailing app to have started accepting cryptocurrency payments. Others, like the Singapore-based TADA, allow payments in Toncoin (TON) and USDT on The Open Network (TON) chain.

Bigger ride-hailing enterprises, such as Uber and Lyft, have not yet started accepting crypto payments directly. However, users can purchase gift cards with BTC and other crypto assets on different platforms. These gift cards can be used to cover the cost of rides on Uber and Lyft. Notably, Uber is actively exploring the integration of crypto payments on its platform.
