U.S. Citizens and Government Unsatisfied With Trump’s Crypto Dinner

Critics say Trump is mixing presidency with personal crypto gains.

Trump Media Truth Social

On May 22, the United States President Donald Trump hosted a private dinner at his golf club in Virginia featuring top holders of the TRUMP memecoin. This exclusive gathering has sparked widespread backlash from various individuals in the country.

Many Americans, along with Republican and Democratic lawmakers, have raised concerns that Trump is using his political position to promote a cryptocurrency that benefits him financially. Some see this as a dangerous mix of public influence and private profit.

The TRUMP token launched before his return to the political forefront, has drawn millions of dollars in investment. Following the dinner announcement, the memecoin surged in value.

Critics worry that Trump is offering special access to himself in exchange for crypto investments. The dinner was advertised as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where attendees could dine with Trump and hear his vision for the future of cryptocurrency.

Lawmakers Propose New Crypto Bill

In response to the controversy, lawmakers introduced a bill targeting such actions. On May 21, Representative Maxine Waters introduced the Stop Trading, Retention, and Unfair Market Payoffs in Crypto Act of 2025, also called the “Stop TRUMP in Crypto Act.”

This proposed law would ban elected officials from engaging in digital asset activities that could create conflicts of interest. It aims explicitly to block politicians, including the president, from trading, holding, or promoting cryptocurrencies for personal gain.

If passed, the bill would ensure that public office is not used to profit from unregulated digital markets, strengthening rules to keep leaders honest.

Trump’s Crypto Campaign Raises Prices and Eyebrows

Trump first teased the exclusive dinner on April 23, revealing plans to host it at the Trump National Club in Washington, D.C. The announcement caused a frenzy in the crypto market, sending his TRUMP token up more.

Apart from the dinner event, Trump has made several public moves that appear to promote the coin. Some critics argue this is part of a larger strategy to raise its value and reward investors with personal access. This pattern has only intensified calls for stronger rules around political involvement in cryptocurrency.

In another twist to the controversy, a consumer advocacy group accused the president of using his TRUMP memecoin to receive personal benefits, saying his actions cross the line between public duty and personal gain and could make people lose trust in their leaders.
