Solana’s Phantom Wallet Faces Downtime Amid $GRASS Airdrop

Phantom advised users to ignore simulation errors for urgent transactions and suggested using decentralized apps to minimize disruptions.

Solana-based non-custodial Phantom Wallet experienced downtime again, as the protocol reported an “uptime incident” on its official X account. The wallet team noted that some services might be temporarily unavailable and are actively working to restore full functionality.

Phantom advised users to disregard simulation errors for urgent transactions. The team also recommended using decentralized apps (dApps) as a possible workaround to avoid disruptions.

Services Restored

Two hours after announcing the issue, Phantom shared an update on X, stating:

“Our services should be working well for most users now.”

They expressed gratitude for users’ patience and assured that efforts are underway to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Phantom has encountered service disruptions this year before. On February 3, the platform reported delays in token balance updates, and on August 15, it experienced a temporary issue that prevented users from viewing their account balances properly. Both incidents were resolved quickly, with the website reporting normal operations soon after.

What is $GRASS?

The latest outage coincided with the airdrop of the Grass ($GRASS) token, a Solana-based memecoin from the decentralized app Grass. The platform, which serves as an AI data layer on Solana, launched its highly anticipated token airdrop on October 28, 2024. Following the airdrop, $GRASS was listed on multiple major exchanges, including Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin, and Crypto.com.

However, the downtime affected some users trying to claim their $GRASS tokens, leading to frustration within the community. Some participants reported losing Solana (SOL) coins due to charges incurred while attempting to claim the airdrop, sparking concerns and criticism of the Solana platform.

The $GRASS memecoin is one of the latest memecoins launched on the Solana network. A recent CoinTab report noted that other Solana-based memecoins, including Goatseus Maximus ($GOAT) and Giga Chad ($GIGA), have also gained popularity, drawing substantial interest from traders.

The report highlighted the growing interest in memecoins on Solana, which has boosted the network’s real economic value (REV). Solana recently set a new record, with its REV reaching $11,089,500.

SOL currently trades at $175, representing a 0.14% decrease in the past 24 hours.
