Iconic Footballer Ronaldinho Suddenly Posts About Crypto Again

Ronaldinho’s latest post about crypto may mark the retired footballer’s first acknowledged foray into the crypto market.

Ronaldinho

Brazilian former professional footballer Ronaldinho Gaúcho has signalled interest in the crypto market once again. This sudden interest comes when other celebrities are trooping into the crypto industry.

Ronaldinho to Enter Crypto?

In a Sunday tweet, the Brazilian footballer stated that it is time for crypto to go mainstream. He also urged his 21.5 million fans on X to join the movement.

Ronaldinho played as an attacking midfielder and winger during his football career. Often considered one of the greatest football players of all time, the Brazilian footballer won a Ballon d’Or and two FIFA World Player of the Year awards. He ended his football career in 2018.

Notably, this is not the first time Ronaldinho will be talked about in the crypto media. In August 2023, the former pro footballer denied claims that he was involved in a $61 million crypto pyramid scheme under a company called 18kRonaldinho. The firm lured users with promises of a 2% daily return on investment.

Celebrities Embrace Crypto

Over the years, numerous celebrities from different parts of the world have embraced the crypto industry. Many have done so through adverts for and partnerships with crypto-tied companies.

Recently, however, more celebrities have leaned towards the ongoing memecoin frenzy. They do this by creating a memecoin under their name and begin promoting them via their social handles. Some of these celebrities have dumped these tokens after raising considerable gains from the memecoin project under their name. An example is the Nigerian musician Davido who withdrew over $470,000 in profit from a Solana-based memecoin called DAVIDO.

Concerns about these celebrities dumping memecoins and potentially hurting the overall market have risen among crypto natives. Earlier this month, Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin expressed displeasure for such acts. He added that these projects can earn his respect only if they serve public good, such as launching an art project or donating to charity groups.

It is currently unknown what crypto venture Ronaldinho has in mind. However, there are mixed feelings among users as to whether he will also launch a memecoin or explore major assets like Bitcoin.
