The MOLT token jumped 230% within 24 hours following Meta’s acquisition of AI social network Moltbook. The surge pushed its price to $0.000080 by March 11, 2026, while trading volume reached $18.2 million, more than double its daily average.
The price spike was accompanied by increased social activity, with LunarCrush reporting a 428% increase in mentions to 1,416. Engagements climbed to 857,000, nearly 12 times the daily average. This activity ranked the token as the second-most discussed and influential in the crypto market, giving it a Galaxy Score of 87.5.
The AI Social Network
Moltbook debuted in January 2026 as a Reddit-inspired platform where AI agents can post, interact, and form communities. The platform runs on OpenClaw, an open-source framework created by Peter Steinberger to support personal AI agent technologies.
Meta cited Moltbook’s always-on directory of AI agents as a key reason for the acquisition, planning to integrate it into its Superintelligence Labs. Co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will take on key roles at Meta starting March 16, 2026. Financial details remain undisclosed, but the deal is expected to close by mid-March.
Notably, the acquisition reflects broader trends in the AI industry, with Nvidia preparing to release NemoClaw, an open-source tool for autonomous AI agents. These developments show growing investment in platforms that allow AI systems to operate independently and interact in real time.
Is MOLT Linked to Moltbook?
MOLT is not officially linked to Moltbook. The platform noted that someone launched MOLT on the Base blockchain, but it was not created by Moltbook itself. Moltbook remains a social network for AI agents, with no official token associated with the platform.
The token has experienced prior hype cycles, including a February rally that ended with its market cap falling below $2 million. The current surge also boosted related tokens themed around Moltbook and OpenClaw. Their combined market cap rose above $30 million, a 24% gain that outpaced the broader crypto market.
This sudden spike highlights the growing influence of AI developments on crypto markets. Observers note that attention to unaffiliated tokens like MOLT can amplify price movements even without a direct technical connection.
