Bitcoin

Metaplanet, a Japanese firm strategically focused on building a Bitcoin treasury, has further increased its holdings, acquiring an additional 775 BTC at an average price of $120,006 each.

This substantial investment, totaling approximately $93 million, highlights the company’s continued confidence in the long-term value and potential of Bitcoin. The acquisition brings Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to an impressive 18,888 BTC, acquired at a cumulative cost of $1.94 billion and an average purchase price of $102,653 per Bitcoin.

Metaplanet Bitcoin Treasury Strategy Growth

This new addition, shared by Metaplanet President Simon Gerovich on X, reaffirms the company’s status as a significant player in the Bitcoin space. Since it started buying Bitcoin in April 2024, Metaplanet has quickly become the seventh-biggest company in the world holding Bitcoin, based on information from Bitcointreasuries.

The company’s commitment to Bitcoin is further reinforced by its recent financial performance. Metaplanet reported strong second-quarter earnings, with total revenue reaching 1.2 billion yen ($8.4 million), a substantial 41% increase compared to the previous quarter.

More notably, the company swung to a net profit of 11.1 billion yen ($75.1 million), a significant turnaround from the 5 billion yen ($34.2 million) loss experienced in the first quarter.

The company’s second-quarter report attributes this positive financial turnaround to recurring cash-secured-put premiums and strong operational performance. Metaplanet projects full-year revenue of 3.4 billion yen and operating profit of 2.5 billion yen.

Building a Strong Foundation

Despite the positive earnings report and continued Bitcoin accumulation, Metaplanet’s stock experienced a temporary setback, falling 8.6% to close at 866 yen on Friday in Japan. However, the stock showed signs of recovery, edging up 0.6% around midday on Monday.

Addressing concerns regarding the recent stock pullback, President Gerovich emphasized the company’s strong foundation and long-term vision. He highlighted the continued expansion of Metaplanet’s Bitcoin income generation business, which has demonstrated consistent growth for three consecutive quarters.

“I hear the disappointment in the recent pullback, It’s natural to feel that way. But what gives us conviction is the foundation we are building,” Gerovich states.

While Bitcoin experienced a 2.3% dip in the past 24 hours, trading at $115,392, Metaplanet’s strategic focus remains firmly on BTC. The company’s aggressive accumulation strategy, coupled with its robust financial performance, signals a strong belief in the cryptocurrency’s future potential.
