The Japanese firm Metaplanet has announced a substantial capital allocation, with its Board of Directors approving an additional $5 billion designated for the expansion of its Bitcoin Treasury. This considerable investment will be channeled through its wholly-owned United States subsidiary, which trades under the stock ticker MTPLF.
The firm stated that this capital injection is earmarked to fund its ambitious plan to acquire 30,000 BTC by the close of the current calendar year, saying:
“While Metaplanet continues to pioneer corporate Bitcoin adoption in Japan, this US expansion underscores our determination to establish a globally integrated treasury model. The Company believes this approach will drive long-term accretion to shareholder value, enhance treasury yield efficiency, and reinforce our positioning at the forefront of Bitcoin-based capital market innovation.”
Metaplanet US Expansion Hit Another Level
The firm previously announced it wants to own 30,000 BTC by the end of the year. This represents approximately 1% of all the Bitcoin that will ever exist, which amounts to 21,000,000 BTC. Metaplanet also plans to hold 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027, making it a primary global holder of Bitcoin for businesses.
This news follows Metaplanet’s recent addition of 1,111 BTC to its holdings, indicating its seriousness about growing its digital assets. The company is investing $5 billion in this initiative as part of its “555 Million Plan,” which commenced on June 6. Metaplanet states that this plan is crucial for achieving its primary objectives and for establishing itself as a leader in managing Bitcoin for companies.
Metaplanet plans to allocate its funds across different countries to achieve its 2027 goal of owning 210,000 BTC. This plan for spending money follows an earlier announcement regarding the raising of $5.4 billion to purchase Bitcoin.
Metaplanet established a US company in May, marking a significant step for its business. The MTPLF stock initially increased, reaching $15. But after this latest news, the stock fell by 6% to $11.64 on Monday. On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Company’s shares also dropped, closing at 1,547 Japanese yen today, down 5.38%.
