The US Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, recently made her first official comment on crypto, vowing to protect the industry’s interests if elected.
Boosting Investments in Crypto
According to Bloomberg, Harris told a group of donors during a fundraiser in Manhattan on Sunday that she intends to boost investment into crypto and other innovative technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).
She said, “To build that opportunity economy, I will bring together labor, small business, founders and innovators, and major companies. We will partner together to invest in America’s competitiveness, to invest in America’s future. We will encourage innovative technologies like AI and digital assets while protecting consumers and investors.”
Harris added that she plans to establish clear rules for the crypto industry designed to protect investors, especially as the collapse of several popular crypto companies resulted in huge investor losses.
“We will create a safe business environment with consistent and transparent rules of the road. We will invest in semiconductors, clean energy, and other industries of the future, and we will cut needless bureaucracy,” Harris added.
Per the report, the Sunday fundraising event in Manhattan raised $27 million. A campaign official noted that it was the largest single-event total since Kamala Harris received the Democratic ticket.
Harris’ New Crypto Stance Gains Support From Community
The latest remarks have been largely well-received by the crypto community, especially as they set Harris apart from President Joe Biden’s approach, which some perceive as unfriendly to the crypto industry.
In an X post, Coinbase policy chief, Faryar Shirzad, stated that Harris’ comments are important for the industry. He pointed out that while Harris has not been as proactive in backing crypto as her Republican rival, Donald Trump, it is notable that she recognizes the importance of digital currencies.
He said, “Kamala Harris going out of her way to mention crypto should send a clear message that the Biden/Warren era of destruction is over.”
This is an important and constructive statement from @KamalaHarris.
It’s not nearly as forward leaning as the concrete and visionary positions taken by @realDonaldTrump, but it’s still notable because:

Last week, former Trump aide, Anthony Scaramucci, revealed that he and a group of crypto advocates have joined Harris to create crypto policies, adding that their efforts are making progress in the right direction.
