Almost Two Billion ETH Holdings
Remarkably, the firm’s wallet received its latest acquired ETH from two financial institutions, FalconX and Galaxy Digital. Before the purchase, the miner held 1,866,974 ETH. Meanwhile, following Thursday’s purchase, it has further cemented its position as the world’s leading institutional ETH investor.
Notably, BitMine’s chairman, Tom Lee, mentioned on the Medici Presents Level Up podcast that he sees ETH soaring to $60,000 in the long term. According to live Ether price data from CoinMarketCap, the coin is trading around $4,400 at the time of writing. So, BitMine’s big ETH bag is worth about $8.7 billion.
Interestingly, as of early July, the firm held only 300,000 ETH. So far, it has boosted its holdings by over 520% within the past two months.
Trailing closely behind is SharpLink Gaming, an online performance-based marketing firm, which holds about 837,230 units of the world’s second-largest crypto. Following BitMine’s latest purchase, it now holds more than twice SharpLink’s reserve.
BitMine Mirrors Strategy’s Playbook
Notably, American business intelligence firm, Strategy still maintains its position as the world’s first and leading crypto treasury company. Other firms, including BitMine, have followed in its playbook, highlighting the potential of long-term crypto investment.
Continuing with its acquisition, Strategy bought an additional 4,048 bitcoins (BTC) over the past business week for $449 million. Following the purchase, it now holds 636,505 BTC worth over $70 billion. Strategy started purchasing BTC five years ago to attain this feat.
Meanwhile, according to Tuesday’s data from HODL15Capital, the world’s top 100 institutional bitcoin investors hold 995,031 BTC collectively and are a few days away from conquering the one million BTC milestone.
